Inspiration to Complete Your Degree
Being on the road to a degree can sometimes feel like walking a hardened lonely road in a post apocalyptic wasteland! At every turn there are obstacles and even nay Sayers who may try to convince you that a degree is worthless or overburned-some! People may cite dropouts who have made successful lives. Some high-profile cases of dropouts-made-good like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg may influence friends of yours to de-value an education and advise you to stop short of getting a degree, but be aware these are the exceptions and not the rule. If you get the right loan from the onset you won’t have to worry about being saddled with student loans or having to “go rogue.” Heck, Bob Dylan graduated and got his degree, and his job surely didn’t demand he show he provide a diploma! While the United States has the highest dropout rate in the industrialized world, according to a Harvard analysis of data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, it doesn’t mean you have to fall through the cracks or are likely too like some others may have.
REASONS FOR DROPPING OUT
Today’s U.S. college dropouts are more likely to be male (57 percent of college degrees go to women), a Harvard study shows. They are less likely to be pursuing careers as lawyers, doctors or architects, where higher education has a clear correlation with obtaining a job.
You’ve heard most of the reasons for dropping out, they are usually not being prepared for the rigors of academic work; inability to cope with the competing demands of study, family and jobs; and cost ect. But ambivalence is also a common thread: William C. Symonds, lead author of “Pathways to Prosperity says: “You will find a lot of kids with a four-year degree who do not have a clue as to what they’ll do.” So what does a stalwart young student who doesn’t want to become one of the self inflicted victims who never completed an education do? Here are some tips:
- Keep in mind a degree has a lasting value, even if the current job market may not demand a diploma you can not tell what the future job market will demand.
- By mindfull of the fact that a diploma is a personal accomplishment that is life long and lasting.
- Combat ambivalence with determining what your individual career path is, where do you find your heart your joy your drive, that is the degree to pursue!
- Stay INSPIRED.
- Get the right loan at the start and you wont be or feel burdened by the cost as you reach the finish line to completing the quest for your future degree. Stay strong – nobody said everyone around you would be cheering for you to complete, that has to sometimes come from you, your inner resolve and strength. To quote a favorite movie about a long difficult journey:
“Dear Lord, thank you for giving me the strength and the conviction to complete the task you entrusted to me. Thank you for guiding me straight and true through the many obstacles in my path. And for keeping me resolute when all around seemed lost. Thank you for your protection and your many signs along the way….Knowing that I have done right with my time on this earth. I fought the good fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith. - The Book Of Eli
