Making Money in College

The term “poor college student” is commonly used, but not overused. College is a full time job between school, studies, and parties. When it comes down to scrounging up enough money to eat, funds may fall short. Then the choices are either begging the parents for money, or eating in the cafeteria. The latter can be a horrifying experience. So how does a poor college student earn a little extra cash while keeping up with all of the other aspects of college life?

Get a Job
It would be foolish to exclude the obvious. Sometimes the best way to earn some money is to get a job. Most college campuses offer tutor programs or a work study program that would not only give you money towards your schooling, but a stipend as well. If you can manage your time well enough, a skill foreign to most college students, a job might be the right answer for you.

Write a Blog
Another option to earn a little extra cash at school is to start a blog online. There is no better time to start a blog than when you are in college. You are being pumped full of great ideas to share with the world and you writing is probably better than it has ever been. To make money from a blog all you need to do is to build a group of followers. Occasionally they will click on an advertisement and you will earn some money. Unfortunately by the time your blog starts pulling down some real income, you could be out of college.

Recycle
Recycling used bottles and cans can bring in some extra money if you live in the right state. You shouldn’t have a hard time finding a plethora of cans to recycle at a college campus. There are even websites where you can recycle old cell phones and other electronics and get paid for it. You can earn money and save the environment at the same time. What’s not to love about that?

Ebay
Sell some of your old junk on Ebay. This is a good way to clean out your house when you move to college and make some money in the process. It is best not to hold on to things that you don’t want or need because their value will drop as time goes by. You can even shop at some of the area’s surrounding garage sales if you are ambitious enough with Ebay.

Sell Hair
If you have more than ten inches of hair on your head, you could be eligible to sell it. You can make one or two thousand dollars by selling your hair. When you sell your hair, the buyers are looking to see that you kept it in good shape. That means you cannot dye your hair if you wish to sell it. You probably won’t be able to find a buyer if you have damaged hair.

Sell Your Blood Plasma
Selling your plasma is commonly confused with donating blood. You can make about forty dollars for every plasma donation you make. This can really add up if you are able to do it on a routine basis. The process is not short and it will take a couple hours to draw your plasma. You may even feel lethargic after donating, so you shouldn’t do this before class.

Buying and Selling Textbooks
Textbooks are one of the most expensive costs of going to college. Luckily, there are ways that you can reduce the cost of textbooks greatly. When you are buying your textbooks, remember to check for used copies or buy them online. You will be able to save a great amount of money if you can avoid the school bookstore. When you are finished with your books, make sure to sell them back. Try and sell them to classmates, or the bookstore. If you cannot sell them at school, then you can always sell them on Ebay or Half.com.

There are a lot of different options to make money as a poor college student and it is important that you keep your eyes open for opportunities. The same opportunities won’t present themselves to different people so when you see one jump on it. Remember, when all else fails, get a job.
